Graduate Application
Thank you for your interest in Linguistics at the University
of Florida. Hopefully, as you have browsed through the links on
our homepage, you have seen how you would fit into our program. We
look forward to considering your application. All the application
materials you need are available through the links on this page. Use
the checklists below to make sure that your application is complete.
Application Checklists
As you follow the graduate application
instructions to prepare your application to the University of Florida,
use the TWO checklists below to make sure your application is complete.
We will not consider your application until we have a complete
file. Our deadline for fall admissions is December 15 (if you want
to be considered for funding) or April 1 (if you do not request funding
from us). For spring semester, the deadline is October 1. We
do not accept new students for the summer terms.

- Application Cover Letter
Introduce yourself and give the names and institutions of the three
people you asked to write letter of recommendation
- Statement of Purpose
Write a brief essay concerning your past academic or teaching experience,
your future plans, and why you want to study in our program. (About
two pages)
- Official Copies of Transcripts
Send us one from every previously attended college or university.
- Copies of Test Scores
Everyone: GRE International Students: GRE and TOEFL
(TSE/SPEAK for teaching assistantships).

Letters of Recommendation
- Assistantship
/ Fellowship Application
Send if you are interested in a teaching assistantship or are interested
in fellowships. International students from non-English speaking
countries must also submit a TSE/SPEAK test score.
- Writing Sample
If you are applying for our Ph.D. program, include a paper illustrating
your best work in linguistics research. (About 15 pages)
- Notify Graduate Coordinator of Completion of Application
If you have completed the graduate application on-line please inform the Graduate Coordinator so that we may download a copy from the Admissions office.
